Canoeing

We use 'Open Canoes’; two or three persons are in each boat. Paddlers work together under the expert guidance of a qualified and experienced instructor. Our instructors guide you through the basics and you will notice a quick progression in skill level, meaning good sense of achievement for all involved. For younger people the instructor will often start by ‘rafting-up’ a couple of boats into a catamaran. With the whole group working as a team real distance can be covered.

Having boats tied together is a bit like having stabilizers on a bike, once skills have been introduced the boats can be split so people then have to work in their pairs / threes. Dependent on the weather it is also possible to sail. Instructors have a variety of games and challenges to throw in during the session the last one or two often involve getting wet!

Choices include paddling at Todbrook reservoir, journeying along the canal or tackling the rapids of one of the local rivers. For a shorter taster session or for lower impact session our onsite pond offers an alternative sheltered from the worst of the weather. Whatever venue you decide upon, we are confident that you will have a safe, enjoyable and rewarding canoeing experience.
