Abseiling
Abseiling is descending a fixed rope. It is the method used by climbers to descend or escape off cliff faces and by cavers to get deeper underground. Abseiling is offered as a personal challenge, usually at Millersdale Viaduct, which offers a 70 feet high free hanging abseil. There is a great feeling of trepidation as one leans over an edge, but an even greater feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment when reaching the safety of the ground.

Although we describe abseiling as a personal challenge, success is very much dependant on the other members of the group. Lots of encouragement, help and understanding is required and when people have successfully abseiled, a “Well Done!” is always appreciated.
